Push Notifications
Send push messages to your website visitors: set up, send, schedule and analyse.
What are push notifications?
Push notifications are short messages sent directly to the browser or device of your visitors, even when they are not on your website.
Benefits:
• Direct contact with your visitors without email
• High open rate compared to email
• Free to send (no extra cost per message)
• Works on desktop and mobile
Visitors must first give permission before they can receive messages. This happens via a browser popup or an opt-in widget on your website.
Tips
- Push notifications work best for time-sensitive messages such as offers, news or updates.
Enabling push
To enable push notifications for your website:
1. Go to Settings → Widgets
2. Turn on the "Push Notifications" toggle
3. The service worker is automatically activated on your live website
4. After activation the Push Notifications menu appears in the sidebar
Once push is enabled, visitors will automatically receive the browser prompt to allow notifications after a few seconds.
Note
- Push notifications require HTTPS. Your website must have a valid SSL certificate.
Sending a push message
To send a push message:
1. Go to Push Notifications → New message
2. Enter the title (max 60 characters recommended)
3. Enter the message text (max 120 characters recommended)
4. Optional: add an image
5. Optional: add a link where visitors go when they click
6. Click Send or schedule the message
You will see a live preview of how the message looks on desktop and mobile.
Tips
- Keep messages short and punchy. Use a clear call-to-action.
- Always add a link so visitors have somewhere to click through to.
Scheduling messages
You can schedule messages for a later time:
1. Compose your message in the push composer
2. Choose "Schedule" instead of "Send now"
3. Select date and time
4. The message will be sent automatically at the scheduled moment
Scheduled messages can always be cancelled or edited as long as they have not been sent. You can find them in the campaign list.
Tips
- Schedule messages for times when your audience is active, such as morning or early evening.
Automatic blog push
A push notification can be sent automatically with every new blog post:
1. Go to Push Notifications → Settings
2. Enable "Automatic blog push"
3. When a new blog article is published, a push is sent automatically
The message contains the blog post title and a link to the article. Only new publications trigger a push, not edits to existing articles.
Note
- Do not publish too many blog posts in quick succession, otherwise visitors will receive too many notifications in a short time.
Placing the opt-in widget
In addition to the automatic browser prompt, you can also place a visual opt-in button on your website:
1. Open a page in the Page Builder
2. Add the "Push Opt-in Button" block
3. Customise the text and style as desired
4. Publish the page
The widget shows a button that allows visitors to subscribe to notifications. If they are already subscribed, this is shown automatically.
Tips
- Place the opt-in widget in a prominent spot such as the header or a sidebar.
Segments and topics
You can divide your subscribers into segments to send targeted messages:
• All subscribers — default segment, reaches everyone
• Blog — visitors interested in blog articles
• Custom topics — create your own topics
When sending a push message you choose which segment should receive it. Visitors can subscribe to specific topics via the opt-in preferences.
Segments are automatically managed based on the opt-in preferences of visitors.
Tips
- Use segments to send more relevant messages. The more relevant, the higher the click rate.
Viewing analytics
In the push analytics dashboard you can see how your messages perform:
• Subscriber growth — how many new sign-ups per day/week/month
• Sent messages — total number of notifications sent
• Click rate — percentage of visitors who click on the message
• Campaign details — view statistics per message
Go to Push Notifications → Analytics to open the dashboard. You can filter data by period and export as CSV.
Tips
- Compare click rates of different messages to learn what works best.
Quiet hours and frequency cap
To prevent visitors from receiving too many notifications, you can set limits:
• Quiet hours — set times during which no notifications are sent (e.g. 22:00 – 08:00). Messages are delayed until after quiet hours.
• Frequency cap — limit the maximum number of messages per visitor per day/week. For example, a maximum of 3 messages per week.
You can find these settings under Push Notifications → Settings.
Note
- Too many notifications cause visitors to unsubscribe. Use frequency cap to prevent this.
