Upsell & Cross-sell
Boost your revenue with smart product recommendations: manual, automatic, bundles, and AI-powered.
What are upsell and cross-sell?
Upsell and cross-sell are techniques to offer customers higher-value or complementary products.
• Upsell — a more expensive or better version of the product the customer is viewing. Example: 'Also check out the Premium version'.
• Cross-sell — a complementary product that pairs well with the current product. Example: 'Goes perfectly with this'.
• Bundle — products that are frequently bought together. Example: 'Customers often buy these together'.
By using these techniques strategically, you increase the average order value without additional marketing costs.
Manually linking products
You can manually choose which upsell, cross-sell, and bundle products are shown per product.
Here's how:
1. Go to E-commerce → Products
2. Open a product
3. Scroll to the 'Recommendations' tab
4. Click 'Add upsell', 'Add cross-sell', or 'Add bundle'
5. Search and select products from your catalogue
6. Save the product
Manual links always have the highest priority and are shown first on the product page.
Tips
- Start with manual links for your bestsellers.
- Link accessories as cross-sell for electronics.
Automatic suggestions
The system automatically analyses orders to discover patterns.
How it works:
• For each order, it tracks which products were purchased together
• A co-occurrence matrix calculates which product combinations occur most frequently
• The top combinations are shown as 'Customers also bought' on product pages
These suggestions improve automatically as more orders come in. A minimum of 10 orders is required before automatic suggestions appear.
Tips
- Automatic suggestions are recalculated daily.
- You can combine automatic suggestions with manual links.
AI recommendations
AI recommendations use artificial intelligence to match products based on description, price, category, and season.
What it does:
• Analyses product descriptions with semantic matching
• Takes price range and category into account
• Adapts to seasonal trends
• Learns from click behaviour and conversions
AI recommendations are available on the Agency plan and supplement manual and automatic suggestions.
Tips
- Use AI recommendations only when you have more than 50 products.

Frequently bought together
The 'Frequently bought together' bundle shows products that are regularly ordered together.
Display on the product page:
• A bundle section with all products side by side
• Total bundle price
• 'Add all products to cart' button
• Customers can remove individual products from the bundle
Bundles can be set up manually or generated automatically based on order history.
Recommendations in the cart
Suggestions are shown in the shopping cart based on its current contents.
How it works:
• The system analyses all products in the cart
• Cross-sell suggestions are shown that match the cart contents
• Products already in the cart are not shown as suggestions
• Visitors can add a suggestion with one click
This is an effective way to increase order value just before checkout.
Analytics & performance
See how your recommendations perform via E-commerce → Recommendations Analytics.
Available statistics:
• Click-through rate per recommendation type (upsell, cross-sell, bundle, AI)
• Conversion rate — how many clicks lead to an add-to-cart
• Revenue contribution — extra revenue generated by recommendations
• Top-performing links
• A/B test results
Use this data to optimise your recommendation strategy.
A/B testing
Test which recommendation strategy works best with A/B testing.
How to set up a test:
1. Go to E-commerce → Recommendations → A/B Tests
2. Choose what to test (e.g. manual vs. AI)
3. Set the split (e.g. 50/50)
4. Start the test
After enough data, you can see which variant generates more conversions. The system can automatically select the winner after a set period.
